Finding Hope in Our Great High Priest: Understanding Jesus’s Role as Our Advocate

When we consider that nothing is hidden from God’s sight, it can feel intimidating. However, we have incredible hope because Jesus serves as our Great High Priest who understands our struggles and advocates for us before God.

Why Does Jesus Understand Our Struggles?

Jesus fully understands human experience because He lived it Himself. He faced many of the same challenges we face:

  • Experienced anxiety and troubled spirits
  • Dealt with grief and rejection
  • Was betrayed by friends
  • Faced mockery and misunderstanding
  • Was tempted in every way, yet remained sinless

How Does Jesus Act as Our High Priest?

As our High Priest, Jesus:

  • Represents us before God
  • Empathizes with our weaknesses
  • Offers perfect sacrifice through His death
  • Opens the way to God’s presence
  • Provides ongoing advocacy

What Does It Mean That Jesus Was Tempted?

Jesus faced real temptations throughout His life, including:

  • Physical desires and needs
  • Shortcuts to achieving goals
  • Testing God’s promises
  • Pride and self-reliance

Yet He remained sinless by:

  • Relying on God’s Word
  • Maintaining proper priorities
  • Refusing to compromise

How Should We Approach God’s Throne?

Because of Jesus’s role as High Priest, we can:

  • Come with confidence
  • Receive mercy and grace
  • Find help in time of need
  • Pray boldly in Jesus’s name
  • Experience God’s welcome

Life Application

This week, consider these questions and challenges:

  • What areas of struggle do you need to bring before Jesus, knowing He understands?
  • How can you approach God more confidently through Jesus?
  • Where do you need to rely on God’s grace rather than your own worthiness?

Challenge: Set aside time each day this week to approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, bringing your real struggles to Jesus who understands and advocates for you.

Remember – we don’t come based on our worthiness, but solely through Jesus’s perfect work on our behalf. He invites us to come just as we are to receive mercy and find grace to help in our time of need.
